A home full of kitchen stories

Embedded in the unspoiled nature of the rolling hills of Goričko, Slovenia, the Monstera estate serves as both the home and personal retreat of Slovenia’s most renowned chef, Bine Volčič.

Retreat and eat

During the pandemic in 2020, Bine and his wife Katarina decided to leave the city and embraced a more tranquil and rural environment, using this opportunity to embark on a new adventure in their gastronomic journey. Why chose between a family home and a culinary retreat?

The elegant Monstera estate now balances the contrast between being their home and a peaceful and inviting space where the couple can welcome gourmet guests. They offer a unique gourmet experience that helps to escape from the fast-paced world, encouraging slow living, sharing meals, and creating moments that can foster genuine human connections and an appreciation for simplicity.

Blending into the landscape

The Volčič family reimagined the small farm in Goričko after purchasing it in 2017 as a future retirement retreat. One key requirement guided their vision – the new structure needed to blend effortlessly with the beauty of nature all around it. To achieve this, they preserved the U-shaped layout of the original structure, which is common in Goričko farmhouses. The Tondach – “Vlečeni Zareznik Antik” – roof tiles were chosen to visually merge with the environment, allowing the estate to become one with nature.

To further enhance the living experience especially in the attic, Tondach roof windows were introduced. These do not only add an interesting design element on the roof, but also fill the interior of the attic spaces with natural light, thereby creating an uplifting and bright ambiance, right under the gorgeous roof.

From roof to pavers

Beyond aesthetics, Bine and Katarina Volčič were particularly impressed by the remarkably fast and efficient construction process made possible by the Porotherm Dryfix system and Porotherm Profi bricks. Another highlight for the Volčič family were the Semmelrock Old Town Bradstone paving stones, which extend the living room outdoors, seamlessly connecting the interior with nature.

By thoughtfully selecting materials that integrate with the landscape, Bine and Katarina have created more than just a home – they have crafted a culinary and lifestyle retreat that reflects their deep respect for nature and passion for authentic experiences.
